My little girls and their new bedroom

I'm so excited to share a glimpse of the newly decorated bedroom of my two little girls - Liv (6) and Ali (4) today. I couldn't show the room without an appearance from my girls, after all what's a children's room without children?! They were more than happy to be little models, in fact they had such fun during the shoot! I'm particularly proud of these images as they're the result of a collaboration with three Southern Sweden creative friends: Gen, interior stylist and owner of The Youngsters helped me design the room, Malin, owner of oh so cool online shop Ziggys, helped pick out the clothes and Kimme Persson took the fab shots. I hope you enjoy the images as much as I enjoyed creating them!

Home: My Scandinavian Home, Photographer: Kimme Persson. Stylist Genevieve Torn, The Youngsters

I am so pleased with the room, but not as much as my girls are. I hope you like it too (it's very nerve-racking posting pictures of my home here!).

My new vintage/industrial scissor wall lamp

My new French scissor lamp from the 1940's arrived on Friday, so excited! Since then it's been something of an adventure getting it installed including a trip into town, a lamp shop, an electrical shop and a visit to a pensioners apartment where I met a lovely man in his 80's at a small desk fixing the people of Malmö's lamps. "I do love it when you young people acquire old things" he said, "and this one's a real beauty." By the time I got home I was grinning from ear to ear with my prized possession.. Here are a few pictures of our new lamp, at the centre of our Sunday morning....

What do you think?

I bought it from Daisy Roots France and although Annie doesn't have any more of these particular lights you can find a bunch of vintage / industrial scissor wall lamps here

If you're interested to know where any of the items are from there's lots of information (and photos of my sitting room) here. Otherwise just give me a shout!

Oh and in case you're wondering what my girls are up to - one of them (on the sofa) was watching how to make cakes on You Tube (her favourite viewing pastime!) and the other was watching Pippi Longstocking on my phone ("she's so stroooong Mummy"), so sweet! I do love a lazy Sunday morning.

What did you get up to this weekend?

My home at Christmas

There's a storm brewing here in Southern Sweden and I don't like it. The only positive is that it's supposed to snow tonight and I do love a little snow around Christmas! Since we're hoping to visit Katrinetorp Christmas market tomorrow and chopping down our tree on Saturday I'm definitely starting to get into the Christmas mood! before the decorating begins I thought I'd share a few pictures of our home from last Christmas.

My Scandinavian Home
Makes me realise how much there is to do!

If you'd like to see a few more pictures and find out where some of the items are from you are welcome to follow these links: my christmas work space, my Christmas sitting room and my Christmas tree

Oh and if you think you may be looking for a more unconventional tree this year you must check out these ideas and this DIY project

PS My Scandinavian Home featured in the Smallable advent calendar yesterday - you can find a short interview behind 4th December if you fancy a read!

Have a lovely Thursday!

my home captured by karin: sitting room

Iiiiiit's Friday, woohoo! I'm looking forward to heading home and taking some down time with my little family. Maybe a walk in the forest with my three year old who's going horse riding, or wrapping up warm to take my elder daughter to her ice skating lesson - BRRRR! (I'll be battling with my man over that one!). Since home is definitely where my heart is today I thought it'd be apt to share the next in my mini series of 'my home captured by Karin'. This time it's my open plan sitting room in the spotlight....I hope you like it!

Pictures 1,2,,5,5,6  by Karin Björklund, Picture 3 by me.

There's so much to do still - for example we'd like to paint the stairs white or light grey - any thoughts? Also we're in need of more light (especially as the days get shorter), I can't see a thing at night! OK, over exaggeration but...tips welcome!

I think Karin's done a sterling job on the photography. Thank you wondrful, talented K! Note though how my styling left a blanket all messy - just goes to show you can't miss a single trick in styling (I once read about someone who did a shoot over an entire day and then realised there was a bright red toy car under the sofa in every shot!).

In case you're interested here are a few tips on where things are from: Sofa, Scandinavian mid-century table and drinks trolley were inherited, black chairs from a flea market, Diamond print, Wasp print, Chair print, Muuto socket suspension light, phone and coloured cushions, Did I miss anything?!

See also my bedroom, my dining area, and my kitchen if you like :) Do you have any photos to share of your home or one you've photographed / styled?

So, the weekend......so exciting! What are you up to?

My home captured by karin: bedroom

I hope you had a lovely weekend? I loved all your comments here and on Facebook about where you'd transport your house for the weekend! I stayed right here at home this weekend so I thought it'd be apt to show the second part in my mini series: my 'My home captured by Karin'. This is my bedroom. We've only recently moved up stairs to the top floor (from this room) and I am so happy we did. I love the high ceiling, floor to ceiling windows and balcony, it all feels so bright and airy.

So many pieces I'm not sure where to start on the 'I spy' front! Chinese stools: Lovely & Company, Gold bedside table lamp: vintage, Wall light: Hay, knitted throw and linen bedding: H&M Home, Peacock chair: flee market find, Book shelves: DIY by my husband, plant, plant pot and pendant light: IKEA. Picture behind bed side table: Muuto designed by All The Way To Paris.

My bedroom is not really finished, the next step is a lovely new rug to keep us toasty this Autumn / Winter. Any tips?

PS If you're up for a great give-away today, enter here to win a fab Lee Broom Crystal Table Lamp (hurry, you need to enter by midnight tonight!). I don't know why I'm telling you, I'm hoping to win it myself!!

Have a lovely Monday!

A BLOG TWEAK, A PIECE OF HOME AND A WHOLE LOTTA LURRRRVVVVVVE !! ..........

I have tweaked my blog a little .......... I thought that it was about time, so have changed my header pictures and had my navigation bar altered with the help of Diana @ Custom Blog Designs. If ever you need to update your blog and need a bit of help on the technical side, I can thoroughly recommend Diana. She was very helpful, very, very, patient and very quick ( and also very reasonable too ).

Above is a collage of a few photographs that I took of our home to use on my header  .......

We are not big on Valentines Day in our house ...... since I first met my husband 45 years ago, he told me that Valentines Day is for unrequited love and that, as ours is requited, it would be silly to celebrate it ( .....it could have been his way of getting out of buying a present !!) but, as it is the day of Love, here are a few appropriate images to savour .....

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY

A LITTLE PIECE OF ' HOME ' ..........

As you will see from the following photographs, I have entered my ' grey period ' !! Here you will find some things that are around our ' HOME '. The crown tea light holder was a present sent to me for Christmas, from Luiza @ Feelings. It sits there so nicely with my candlesticks and mercury glass lanterns.
Just before Christmas, I won a giveaway from Michelle @ Petit Coterie . It was the cushion that you see above. I have already got quite a few of her cushions and when I won the cushion I ordered some of her fabric to cover a rocking chair. With what was left over, I covered the cushion on the chair above. I will show you the rocking chair another time.

This is an old shelf that I painted and distressed and, laying next to the jug is a heart that Luiza made and sent with my present. She must have known that I was in my ' grey ' phase.

Here's a closer look. Isn't it pretty ?

This isn't a very good photograph of it but, can you see the gift tag with the cross ? Well, they come from the very talented Magdalena @ Color Sepia. I ordered some Christmas cards from Magdalena and she sent the gift tags and the cross for me. The 'J' and the 'C' are my husband and my initials and are printing blocks.

An old white jug and dried agapanthus, rose and eucalyptus.

A grey metal heart on one of my cupboards.

This is a wax picture that my sister bought me from Hungary.

This is one of the Christmas cards that Magdalena made and a rusty laurel wreath. Our house is called ' The Laurels ' so whenever I see anything to do with laurels, I buy it !

The hand and heart I bought when we were in Carmel. I have quite a few things with the hand and heart theme. I think that it is an Amish saying: 'Put your hands to work and your heart to God '.

These are my pieces of sea glass and shells that Gigi @ The Magpies Fancy gave me when I won her giveaway. She collected them from the beach and put them in the parcel as a little extra. I love them and they are on the mantelpiece in our study.

Well, there's a little look at a few of the things that are around our house. Wishing you all a wonderful weekend.
