A cosy weatherboard cottage interior

The final home tour of the week always needs to be fabulous. I search in particular for somewhere that warms the heart, somewhere perhaps where you could see yourself spending the weekend. And this home hits the mark. Spotted over at blog extraordinaire Design Sponge, the 1890's weatherboard cottage in Queensland, Australian is home of photographer and stylist Kara Rosenlund and her husband. It's crammed with beautiful treasures collected over the years from all their travels as well as local vintage finds. Kara takes a lot of her inspiration from nature and you can seen this in the autumnal colours and mix of browns and whites. Could you spend your weekend here?!

Photography and styling by Kara Rosenlund via Design Sponge with thanks.

Oh so lovely. What a home!

I've actually shown Kara's home before here. Can you believe it's the same home? It looks completely different (beautiful in another way) which just goes to show how you can transform a home!

Some of the items such as the horse and outback print can be found in Kara's shop (don't miss her limited edition sea print too - so stunning!).

You can see more images and read more about Kara's home here

This is the second brown and white themed home this week (other one here, in case you missed it!). What a beautiful combination.

And how cute is this autumn outfit (found in the archives while I was looking for inspiration)?!

Don't forget to pop back tomorrow to enter my weekend give-away!

A beautiful white apartment with notes of grey, green and brass

Normally I try to select the best pictures from a home tour so you can get an idea of the space. Today I had no option but to show the complete home. Every. Single. Angle. Because, to me, this Swedish home in Gothenburg is simply beautiful! Grey, green and brass, what a fabulous colour combination and so very now!

Stadshem

Wow, what an incredible space, don't you think?! Can you believe it's actually for sale....Gothenburg anyone?!

It definitely calls for a what's what list (I wish I knew where every singe item is from but sadly I don't so we'll need to work together on this one). Here's my round up: HAY DLM side table, Grey lamp from IKEA, Love this and this cushion with triangles. Pia Wallén cross blanket. Thonet 214 and 209 chair. Golden Bell light. 'D' and 'X' posters from here. Source a vintage black leather sofa on Lauritz. The fireplace is a classic Swedish 'Kakelugn'. Is there anything you recognise and love?

Have a lovely day!

A cool vintage inspired space in Stockholm

There's something strange...in the neighbourhood. Well actually, just on this blog. The night fairy (aka Ana at Blog Milk) has been in while we were asleep and moved things around a little. Even I got a shock this morning and I was the one that instigated it! Do you think you can get used to the change? I hope so! Something that's not strange though is this fantastic apartment in Stockholm. The open plan living area with it's array of vintage items is incredibly cool. I love the graphical style and mix of light grey and wood.  How about you?

Fastighetsbyrån
Pretty cool don't you think?

I love the way the shoes are stored on open shelving in the hallway. Although I know this is not everyone's cup of tea - what's your verdict? Do you remember this and this post showing ways to use your shoes to decorate your home (or there's even displaying shoes up the stairs on on picture frames?!) If ever there was an excuse to buy a fabulous pair of heels.

Something I'm starting to see creep into homes is the floral sofa like in the sitting room here - a throw back to the eighties and nineties. A big trend for 2015?

A few items I see and love: the pendant light over the dining table looks similar to the Louis Poulsen in white. The dining chairs are similar to the 209 Thonet chair. Source vintage items such as the bar stools on Etsy

Have a lovely day!

A serene Dutch home in whites and browns

One of my favourite interior blogs of late is The Style Files. Author Danielle has the most incredible sense of style and  I love stopping by to see her daily posts. The sense of style is also reflected in her relaxed, boho home in the Netherlands which is decorated using many products from her shop, Le Souk.  I wrote to Danielle this morning to ask if I could show a tour of her home here on My Scandinavian Home and not only did she say yes, she also offered us all 10% off any item in her store until 30th November with the code MSH10. Result! Thanks Danielle! Here's a sneak peek of her home which has been kept mainly white with notes of brown through out for a serene, relaxed vibe.

What a beautiful home, don't you think?

I love the Moroccan touches. Anything that stands out to you in particular?

The shots have been taken by Finnish photographer and stylist Paulina Arcklin. You can see more of her work here.

Have a lovely day!

PS Local Malmö online children's store The Youngsters are holding a really fun father's day instagram competition to win 500 SEK (that's around 65 USD) to spend in the online store. To enter share a picture of your vision of fatherhood on instagram using the hashtag #fatherhoodwiththeyoungsters and then tag @theyoungsters, such a lovely idea!

BY INVITATION ….. BEST DAY OF YOUR LIFE !! … **** WARNING **** ….. PHOTOGRAPHS OF ME AS A CHILD !!!!!!!!!!!!!

When we were given the subject for our ' By Invitation ' post this month, I was not a happy bunny !! How on earth can you choose ' the best day of your life ' ?!! Surely, by rights, it should be ones wedding day, the days that our children were born, a special family and friends get-together, a wonderful holiday, our son and daughter-in-law's wedding or the birth of our grandchildren, shouldn't it ?

I doubt very much, if we only have one ' best day of our life ' but, the day that was SO special for me was Christmas as a child.

It was the most exciting and magical time …..

I can remember my Mum, buying a tree at the greengrocers and dragging it back to our house { I'm not sure why she had to do this and not my Dad !! } and then our Dad, my sister and I would turn that dark green pine tree into a sparkling, twinkly tree of magic { along with a few arguments as to where to place a bauble or who would have the honour of putting the fairy on top of the tree !! } My Mum would make a Christmas cake, mince pies and the Christmas pudding, along with bread sauce and oodles of other things { there wasn't a Waitrose or M & S in those days !! } Then, on Christmas Eve, we would place an old limp, white pillowcase at the end of the bed  which, by morning, was brimming over with, board games, chocolate coins, paints and paint brushes and that chocolate toolkit that tasted like soap but was delicious at the same time because we could eat chocolate at 7 a.m in the morning and, I always had my fingers crossed that my favourite would be found in my pillow case …….

Jacks !! I LOVED Jacks …..

None of it was overly expensive but, in those post war years, there wasn't an abundance of things and our parents would have to save up for the presents and food. Our Dad went to work all week and then, at the weekends, he played in a band. In the months leading up to Christmas, he would take an empty gin and whisky bottle with him to gigs and, whenever he was offered a drink, he would pour it into his empty bottles and, by Christmas, they would be full !!!!

Then, when our relatives had arrived, it would be time for the presents under the tree. I belonged to the Swimming Club and swam in galas { that's me on the right } and one of my best presents was the Swimming Club track suit. They were pretty expensive and I can remember being so excited to have it !!

 Another year, my present was a leather netball { as you can see, I was in the netball team …. that's me, sitting on the grass on the left }

….. and, one of my favourite presents of all ….. my Jaco skates. I would play on these all day, all year, until the leather strap broke and then they would go on my Christmas list again.
Unlike today, we would only get one of these presents each year from our parents, along with a present from Aunts and Uncles and Grandmothers and Grandfathers, all of which were quite modest by today's standards.

I hope that we managed to make our own children's Christmases as magical as ours were because they are certainly up there as one of the best days of my life.

To read about others ' best days of their lives ' go and see Marsha { although, at the moment, she is having computer problems so, you might just have to read mine again !!!! }
